Shadelands is launching an easy-to-use, high-tech bikeshare program with LimeBike, a San Mateo-based firm that will deploy 500 bright green smart-bikes throughout the 267-acre Shadelands business center enabled with GPS, 3G wireless technology, and self-activating locks. The LimeBike app makes it simple to find, unlock, and pick up a nearby bike. When finished, riders are guided to park bikes in approved or designated areas.

This is the first of its kind program that puts bikeshare riders on the public streets and in the public places of Walnut Creek.

To celebrate the launch, Shadelands is holding a Bike Sharing Kickoff with free food and drinks to the first 100 people on Tuesday, January 23, Noon to 1pm, in the parking lot of The Ultimate Fieldhouse, 2675 Mitchell Drive, in the heart of Shadelands. Shadelands employees and visitors are encouraged to download the LimeBike app on their iPhones and Androids and take the bikes for a spin. The first ride is free, and riders can use the promo code “Shadelands” for an additional five free rides.

LimeBike staff will be on hand to assist and free LimeBike t-shirts will be given to the first 30 people who download and sign up at the kickoff. Organizers are expecting a few Walnut Creek dignitaries to take the bikes for a spin, themselves. In the event of rain, the event will move indoors at The Ultimate Fieldhouse.

"This is a great investment for Shadelands businesses and it's a great investment for the employees and the people of Walnut Creek," said Walnut Creek City Mayor Justin Wedel. "The bike sharing program removes cars from our roads, which reduces greenhouse gases. It provides additional means for people to get to other businesses, and it provides exercise for the community." When asked if he would be jumping on a LimeBike, Mayor Wedel said, without hesitation, "Of course!"

“Smart bikeshare is revolutionizing transportation across the world,” said Megan Colford, operations manager of LimeBike, the nation’s leading smart bikeshare service. “We’re excited to help solve first and last-mile transportation barriers in Walnut Creek and help people get to, from, and around Shadelands.”

Whether heading to Pleasant Hill BART, shopping and dining around Shadelands, or exploring the many connected trails, Shadelands employees and visitors will be able to rely on LimeBike as their affordable, convenient transportation option.
