T’ai Chi Chih is a moving meditation that cultivates health, serenity and longevity. This new form of the ancient Chinese art of T’ai Chi was originated by Justin Stone and first taught in 1974. It is particularly well adapted to our fast-paced and stress-filled lives. With only 20 easy-to-learn movements that are enjoyable to do, it can be done by anyone, regardless of age or physical ability.
T’ai Chi Chih is ideal for seniors! A research study at UCLA found that these gentle movements boost seniors’ immunity against shingles and significantly improve both physical health and overall well-being. They are especially beneficial for seniors since regular practice improves balance, reduces stiffness, regulates blood pressure, increases energy, promotes restful sleep and can extend independent living.
The non-impact movements are easy to do, and are adaptable to anyone’s comfortable range of motion, including those who need to do the movements sitting. They require only a few feet of space and no special clothing or equipment, so they can be done in small apartment or almost anywhere. They have a calming and centering effect which dissolves tensions, enhancing creativity and daily activities.
People who do T’ai Chi Chih regularly say that it:
– Relaxes & relieves stress
– Improves coordination, balance, & flexibility
– Gives more energy & stamina when needed
– Helps you sleep better
– Relieves back pain & headaches
– Regulates blood pressure & metabolism
– Increases mental clarity, concentration, & creativity
– Strengthens the heart, lungs, bones, & immune system
– Benefits arthritic joints and improves circulation
The regular practice of T’ai Chi Chih produces these wonderful benefits by circulating and balancing what the Chinese call “chi”. What is this mysterious Chi? Chi can be translated as ‘Vital Energy’. It is the energy that flows through our bodies and through every living thing. It is the Life Force itself! Many people experience is as a pleasant tingling sensation while doing T’ai Chi Chih.
