Name: $10 Australian Wine Tasting Flight
Date: February 9, 2019
Time: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM PST
Event Description:
For a few decades, Australians have been at the cutting edge of the New World of wine. This weekend at Vinous Reverie we will taste wines from Australia's most prestigious regions. In South Australia, Barossa is recognized as the quintessential wine region, with many obvious physical similarities to California's Napa Valley. Naturally, we will have what has become one of the world's most distinctive wine styles -Barossa's big, bold Shiraz (Elderton). Typically rich and chocolaty, spicy and never shy, these wines can range from intriguing essences to alcoholic elixirs. Another increasingly interesting Rhone varietal from Barossa is Grenache (Yalumba). An important and distinctive grape that can make rich, concentrated wines, especially when grown on old vines. We'll also sample a Riesling from Eden Valley, the cooler extension of the Barossa Valley and one of the few wine regions of the world that produces a beau ideal of the varietal (Pewsey Vale). Eden Valley Riesling has a floral and mineral top note but becomes increasingly toasty with time in the bottle. From there, we move on to Victoria's Nagambie Lakes, where possibly the world's oldest vines of Marsanne (Tahbilk) reside. And lastly, we'll finish up in Western Australia's most renown region, Margaret River. This area makes some of Australia's best-built (both in finesse and ripeness) Cabernets (Xanadu) which are comparable to those from Bordeaux, Bolgheri and Napa Valley. Join us and explore Australian wines like never before.
